Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued his most direct criticism yet of President Donald Trump, accusing the US leader of spreading Russian disinformation and aiding Vladimir Putin’s efforts to escape international isolation.
Zelensky Pushes Back Against Trump’s Claims
📌 Speaking in Kyiv, Zelensky dismissed Trump’s false claim that the United States had provided Ukraine with $500 billion in aid and mocked Trump’s suggestion that Ukraine should repay this by giving the U.S. access to its mineral reserves.
📌 “This is not a serious conversation. I am protecting Ukraine. I can’t sell it away. I can’t sell our state,” Zelensky said.
📌 Zelensky also slammed Trump’s exclusion of Ukraine from peace talks with Russia, warning that Trump’s deal-making approach is emboldening Putin’s ambitions.
📌 “I believe that the United States helped Putin to break out of years of isolation… All of this has no positive impact on Ukraine.”
🔥 Trump vs. Zelensky: The War of Words Escalates 🔥
🔴 Trump shifted blame for the war onto Ukraine, suggesting Kyiv should have made a deal with Russia sooner to prevent the invasion.
🔴 Sergei Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, praised Trump for blaming NATO expansion for the war, saying he is the only Western leader who acknowledges Moscow’s concerns.
🔴 Trump also questioned Zelensky’s legitimacy, suggesting Ukraine has gone too long without holding elections, a Kremlin talking point that ignores Putin’s rigged 2024 election.
🔴 Trump falsely claimed Zelensky’s approval rating is only 4%. In reality, a recent poll found 58% of Ukrainians trust Zelensky.

Trump’s Position: America First or Russia First?
📌 Trump’s America First foreign policy has often clashed with Ukraine’s calls for continued U.S. military support. 📌 The Biden administration provided billions in weapons and aid, but Trump is pressuring Europe to foot the bill. 📌 With 2024’s NATO commitments in question, Trump’s approach could reshape Europe’s security landscape.
